Deck Replacements Sunshine Coast

Do you have an older Sunshine Coast deck that looks neglected and requires a new facelift? Maybe a deck refreshment is all your deck needs to get it looking amazing and ensure that it can withstand the harsh outdoor climate. The difference between a refresh (restoration) and a replacement is heavily influenced by the condition of the existing decking boards and the initial construction quality. A simple deck inspection from one of our Sunshine Coast deck builders will reveal whether the decking can be restored or has passed its due date.

What Our Clients Are Saying...

Deck Replacement Options

When it comes time to replace or upgrade your decking boards, there are 3 options to consider:

  1. Remove and replace with the same decking
  2. Remove and replace with alternative natural timber decking
  3. Remove and replace with composite timber

Natural Timber - Some great options for natural timber decking include the following species and their common available sizes:

ACQ Pine 90 x 22
Losp Pine 90 x 22
Pacific Jarrah 90x19
Yellow Balau 90x19
Kwila/Merbau 90x19
Spotted Gum 86x19
Red Ironbark 86x19

Our decks are always fastened with quality stainless steel decking screws ensuring adequate holding capacity and easy removal of decking if required. Screwing decks ensures that they can be sanded in the future if screws heads are countersunk correctly.

Composite Decking - If the thought of ongoing maintenance and oiling your deck drives you crazy, composite decking boards are the ideal choice. We have a huge range of brands and styles to select from. Along with our professional advice and industry experience, we can help you select the best composite board for your deck. Some common brands we offer are below:

Existing Deck - Restoration Or Refresh

A timber deck requires a quality coating system to protect it from the harsh outdoor elements. A deck coating system will enhance the timber's performance and extend its lifespan during the ongoing battle with sun and rain. How often your deck protection coating needs to be refreshed will depend on the location and exposure of your timber deck.

Replacement Coating

A failing deck protection coating can look unsightly and increase the chances of premature timber failure. These coatings need to be stripped right back to bare timber by using products or sanding the timber. If dome headnails have been used during the construction, sanding the deck is not an option. For bullet head nails, screws or clip systems, the deck can be sanded using professional sanding equipment. Once the deck has been restored to bare timber, a new coating system can be applied, usually requiring an initial 3-coat system. Once the new coating has been completed, the deck is back to full strength and should be reviewed every 3 months to assess its next ‘top up’ application.

Refresh Coating

Deck protection coatings that are in order and simply need to be ‘topped up’ require a simple surface clean followed by one coat of the product initially used. Mixing different products may cause the coatings to react and prematurely fail. Once the new coating has been finished and the deck is back to full strength it should be reviewed every 3 months to assess its next application.
